The purpose of Central Middle Schools Advisory Program is to work with young adults who are struggling with security, test prep, bullying, and school success skills. The school's advisory team also works with students who are transitioning into other grades, schools, and work on skills such as improving school performance and peer meditation skills.
Most commonly during this stage in a students life, a big change can be hard. Especially when students are leaving the security of their elementary school and transitioning into a middle school. This program works with children through the transitions of different classroom environments and interactions with the faculty and student body.
Some students in the Advisory Program will conference individually with informal meetings throughout the year. Meeting with each student one-on-one will give the adviser a chance to get to know the students on a personal level. It is also beneficial for the students to get to know the adviser during one-on-one meetings for the students to become comfortable and develop a strong relationship with their adviser. The benefit of an adviser working individually with a student is that the adviser will get to know the student personally and be able to advocate for the students to their parents and teachers.
There are 25 students in this advisory group that meet once a week on various days.
Each grade level at Central Middle School has a group to meet with during advisory times. Meeting in groups allows students to relax and hangout with students who are going through similar struggles and changes. Advisers also encourage students to join after school programs, service volunteer, and even group interest activities with other students
These students meet every other day or so one-on-on and in groups of all grade levels at Central Middle School.
Central Middle School does help students who struggle with security and and mental stress throughout the day. With having his type of advisory, invigoration, allows students to take breaks and recharge their minds for the day. During these meetings, students and advisers informally interact with one another to help students calm down and relax before resuming their busy lives at school. This could be considered a recess and school break but this is where the students can relieve stress and learn to be comfortable in a school environment.
The students in this group meet every other day or so in groups of all grade levels at Central Middle School.
The school's Advisory Program objectives are to help students in the school environment, with future educational planning, interpersonal and communication skills, and with career awareness. Our goal is to have students be able to make their own decisions, solve their own problems and get involved.
